Lower Shore Progressive Caucus joins a coalition of Eastern Shore groups to demand Eastern Shore state representatives stand up to Andy Harris on Off-Shore wind
Salisbury, August, 7th, 2019 -- The Lower Shore Progressive Caucus is proud to announce the creation of a coalition of local groups and elected officials from across the Eastern Shore to call on every member of the Eastern Shore delegation in Annapolis to stand up to Andy Harris concerning his position against off-shore wind project development.
Recently Representative Andy Harris has been trying to delay and ultimately kill the off-shore wind project off the coast of Ocean City. His actions are putting jobs and economic growth at risk here on the Eastern Shore. That is why this coalition is calling on all our representatives to publicly stand up to Representative Harris and demand he stops his current efforts to kill jobs and opportunities on the Eastern Shore.
The construction of offshore wind and future green energy projects across the Eastern Shore would allow for the birth of a modern clean energy economy that will produce thousands of skilled family-supporting jobs across our entire region. According to the Public Service Commission, this first offshore wind project alone would bring $1.8 billion of in-state spending as well as 9,700 direct and indirect jobs. Keeping in mind that the U.S. industry is just beginning to develop this tremendous untapped offshore wind resource, this presents an opportunity for the Eastern Shore and all of Maryland to put our businesses and our workers at the forefront of this burgeoning American industry.
